Service Committees
Art:
Projects include:
Make and Take craft nights, Very
Special Arts, sponsoring a quilt show and photography contest at Postville
Courthouse bi-annually. The committee has showcased the local arts
by decorating storefront windows downtown Lincoln. The committee
also enters a float in the annual Christmas parade.
Conservation:
This committee works hard to encourage
care of our environment by promoting recycling. Club members are
asked to save all aluminum and glass. Pop tabs are collected and
donated to the Ronald McDonald
House in Springfield. The tabs are exchanged for cash to be used at
the House.
Education:
Projects included collecting school
supplies for the needy, taping textbooks for special education students,
educating club members about learning disabilities, working closely with
the Lincoln Public Library to promote National
Library Week by providing 2 prizes (gift certificates to a local book
store), sponsoring a HOBY
student.
Health:
This committee worked closely with
Graue Pharmacy at the Community Health Fair providing assistance with the
Diabetic Screening, is sponsoring a team for the American
Cancer Society's Relay for Life. They made donations to Camp
Candy and United Cerebral
Palsy. Our club also mans the Logan County phones during the
Cerebral Palsy Telethon every year.
Home Life:
Committee members supported the Ronald
McDonald House by cooking a meal for the residents, collected food
for the food pantry, donated games to Winning Wheels, donated gifts to
the Salvation Army
during the holidays and has sponsored a babysitting clinic for 6-7-8 graders.
International Affairs:
Projects include: Organized
a canned food collection in the elementary schools in recognition of World
Food Day. All donations benefited the Logan County Food Pantry.
Committee members participated in the Crop
Walk, organized the annual club International potluck. Made a
monetary donation to Operation Landmine and are collecting small toys and
games for Operation
Smile.
Public Affairs:
Committee projects have included giving
treats to the crossing guards in the fall, promoting Child Abuse Awareness
month, child safety, tornado safety, and hosting a baby shower for American
Indian Center in Chicago.
Appointed Chair Positions
Children's Theater:
Each year our club sponsors
a live theater performance for elementary students. Sometimes this
is the only exposure to live theater that a child experiences.
CIP:
Our project this year is Habitat
for Humanity.
Scholarship:
GFWC-IL offers scholarships for students
to attend summer HOBY,
art, speech and music camps and scholarships towards college expenses.
